How to Merge Trades in the Journal
Learn how to combine multiple trades into one unified journal entry using Trade Merge — useful for traders who scale in, take partial entries, or exit in pieces.
What is Trade Merge?
Trade Merge lets you combine multiple trades into one unified trade entry. If you scaled into a position, added partial entries, or exited in pieces, you can merge those separate records into a single trade that accurately reflects the full idea.
How to Merge Trades
- Go to Journal and open the trades table
- Select 2 or more trades using the row checkboxes
- A bottom action bar will appear — click Merge
- Review and confirm the merge
The selected trades will be combined into one merged trade.
Eligibility Requirements
Trades must match on all three of the following to be eligible for a merge:
- Symbol — same asset
- Account — same trading account
- Direction — both Buy or both Sell
If the selected trades don't meet these criteria, the merge will be blocked and the platform will explain why.
What Happens After the Merge
- The merged trade keeps the oldest entry date/time
- The merged trade keeps the most recent exit date/time
- The remaining trades become additional entries and exits within the merged trade
- Notes, attachments, and tags are preserved — tags are combined into a deduplicated list so no context is lost
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I merge trades from different symbols?
No — trades must share the same symbol, account, and direction to be eligible.
Will I lose my notes or tags?
No. Notes and attachments are kept, and tags from all selected trades are merged together without duplicates.
Can I merge more than two trades?
Yes — you can select as many trades as you need. The same eligibility rules apply to all selected trades.
Where do I find the Merge option?
It appears in the action bar at the bottom of the screen once you select two or more trades from the Journal trades table.
Can I undo a merge?
Merges cannot be undone from within the Journal. If you need to reverse a merge, contact support.
